OREANDA-NEWS. On the eve of the start of the 2022 Olympics, Olivier Niggli, Director General of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), held a briefing at which he stated that the organization was not afraid of a repetition of the situation of the Games in Sochi.

And the head of the agency, Vitold Banka, noted that WADA will focus on monitoring Russia's anti-doping program, as it must comply with all necessary standards.

“I'm not sure it's worth comparing the Beijing and Sochi Olympics. These are different situations. Now things are happening in a “bubble”, but laboratories with international experts are involved in the testing process. We have learned the lesson of Sochi and are monitoring the situation. We are not afraid of a repetition of the situation, ”Niggli said, whose words are quoted by RIA Novosti Sport.

“More than a year has passed since the CAS decision regarding the uniforms of Russian athletes, their flag and other things. Now we are focused on monitoring the activities of RUSADA. We must be sure that the anti-doping program in Russia is strong and complies with all the rules.

Even during the pandemic, WADA has maintained its leadership in the fight against doping. Testing is kept at a normal level. We have kept out-of-competition testing at the level of 2019, which is a great achievement. These Games are important because WADA is introducing new anti-doping testing methods that have advantages over traditional methods. There will be less interference in the lives of athletes, transportation will be easier, ”Banka said.

The XXIV Winter Olympics will be held in Beijing from 4 to 20 February 2022. The 2022 Games will feature 109 sets of medals, and Beijing will be the first city to host both the Summer and Winter Games. 109 sets of medals will be played at the tournament. The participants of the Games will be in a "bubble", which will not allow them to go to the city, as well as intersect with the local population.

In the Federation Council, the WADA decision was considered politicized and a punishment for the entire country.

In September, RUSADA reported that the agency was working on the complete lifting of sanctions against Russian athletes. To do this, it is necessary to comply with the decision of the arbitration, on which the agency must cooperate with the investigation to supplement the information already available.
