OREANDA-NEWS. September 12, 2016. Manufacturing firms need adequate resources to expand, innovate and export their innovative products. The Government of Canada is proud to support firms such as Shawinigan Aluminium, world leader in the manufacture of premium grade aluminum billets. The company has built a solid global reputation by focusing on quality to satisfy its most demanding clients. In 2014, this secondary aluminum processing firm reclaimed the casting centre from the Rio Tinto Alcan plant.

The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, announced that Shawinigan Aluminium is obtaining a \\$700,000 repayable contribution to upgrade its manufacturing facility and meet its growth objectives.

The contribution was granted under CED’s Quebec Economic Development Program (QEDP) and was used for the installation of independent electrical systems that are completely separate from those of Rio Tinto Alcan’s industrial complex.
