OREANDA-NEWS An Mi-8 helicopter crashed in the Magadan region, with 20 shift workers on board. The aircraft belonging to the Dalnerechensk Avia company crashed in the area of Quartz Mountain.

The Far Eastern Transport Prosecutor's Office reported that investigators in Khabarovsk have already opened a criminal case after the helicopter crash. The case was initiated under Article 263 ("Violation of traffic safety and operation of air transport") of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

The representative of the Federal Air Transport Agency, Artyom Korenyako, spoke about the condition of the passengers on board. According to him, there were 20 people on board the Mi-8, which was flying from the Quartz mine to Omsukchan. Two people are in serious condition after the helicopter crash. One passenger did not survive.

The ministry clarified that the Mi-8 helicopter made an emergency landing at 11:17 Magadan time, 75 kilometers from the urban-type settlement of Evensk in the North-Even district.
