OREANDA-NEWS. The first group of prisoners of war returned to Armenia from Azerbaijan through the mediation of Russian peacekeepers. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, Tigran Avinyan.

“Today, with the mediation of Russian peacekeepers, an exchange of prisoners of war took place. 44 of our compatriots have officially returned to Armenia from Azerbaijan,” the politician wrote on Facebook. Avinyan also stressed that the process of searching for and returning Armenian prisoners of war continues. More information about them will be published later.

The Russian Defense Ministry informed that the negotiations on the exchange of prisoners of war were conducted by the commander of the Russian military contingent of the peacekeeping forces in the conflict zone, Lieutenant General Rustam Muradov. According to the officer, 12 Azerbaijani prisoners were returned from Armenia.
