OREANDA-NEWS. “Parliament has introduced significantly stricter punishments for people trafficking recently and perpetrators can expect to receive several years in prison”, the Prime Minster’s Chief Advisor on Homeland Security said.

Speaking on Hungarian M1 television’s Sunday evening current affairs program, György Bakondi stressed that Hungarian laws also apply to foreigners, and accordingly if found guilty they will also serve their prison sentences in Hungary, after which they will be deported.

The chief security advisor also spoke about the 20-year-old Pakistani citizen who attacked a 19-year-old girl with a knife in Budapest on Saturday and explained that since the man committed the robbery with a weapon he can expect to receive a stricter prison sentence of up to six or seven years, after which he will be deported from the country. Pre-trial detention procedures have already been initiated against the man, he added.

On the subject of Brexit, i.e. Great Britain’s possible withdrawal from the European Union, Mr. Bakondi said: it is important to both Europe’s and Hungary’s interests that Great Britain remain a member of the European Union.
