OREANDA-NEWS The demand for tourist visas to the Russian Federation among Chinese residents has increased markedly on the eve of the autumn holidays, the Russian Embassy in China told RIA Novosti.

On October 1, Chinese residents celebrated the 74th anniversary of the proclamation of the formation of the People's Republic of China, this day traditionally marks the beginning of the "golden week" - national holidays when residents of the country rest and travel a lot both inside and outside China. This year, the long weekend began last Friday, when the country celebrated the Mid-Autumn Holiday, so the holidays will last from September 29 to October 6 inclusive.

"Autumn holidays are a favorite time for Chinese residents to travel both in their own country and abroad. Russia is traditionally one of the most popular destinations among Chinese tourists," the Russian diplomatic mission told the agency.

The embassy pointed out that "this is reflected both in the demand for travel visas, which has grown markedly on the eve of the holidays, and in the increase in tourist flow through the visa-free group tourism channel, which recently resumed its work."
"Of course, Moscow and St. Petersburg remain leaders in receiving Chinese tourists," the embassy noted when asked which destinations in Russia Chinese tourists most often choose to visit during the autumn holidays this year.

At the same time, the diplomatic mission added, "travelers from China are increasingly attracted not only to world–famous cities, but also to remote regions of our country, where visiting iconic locations is combined with immersion in a unique local flavor, among them the Far East, the North Caucasus, Karelia, Siberia and the Urals."
