OREANDA-NEWS  The General Court in Tehran estimated the murder of the former commander of the Al-Quds special forces, who are part of the elite military formation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, Qassem Suleimani, at $ 50 billion. This is reported by RIA Novosti.

"The United States and 41 other individuals and legal entities in the United States were sentenced to pay 49 billion and 770 million dollars due to crimes committed during the martyrdom of General Qasem Suleimani," the court said in a statement.

The attack on Suleimani was reported on January 3, 2020, as a result of a US airstrike on Baghdad airport. In response, Tehran fired dozens of missiles at American targets in Iraq on the night of January 8. The operation that took place was called "Martyr Suleimani". The United States said there were no casualties and minimal damage to military bases.

In January 2023, the Iranian authorities announced plans to hold the United States accountable for the three-year-old murder. According to the country's leadership, the incident was an act of terrorism, and its perpetrators should be held responsible for it. It was not specified exactly how Iran intends to hold the American authorities accountable. The country's Foreign Ministry also did not name those whom it considers the perpetrators of the murder.
