OREANDA-NEWS. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the statements of UN Secretary General António Guterres on the situation in eastern Ukraine do not correspond to his status and powers under the Charter of the World Organization. According to the minister, the UN Secretary General was subject to pressure from the West, RIA Novosti reports.

To our great regret, the UN Secretary General, whose representative you are, was subject to pressure from the West and made several statements the other day about what is happening in the east of Ukraine that do not correspond to his status and his powers under the UN Charter,” Lavrov said at the beginning of the meeting with the special envoy UN Secretary General for Syria Geir Pedersen.

According to the minister, the UN secretariat must be impartial in any crisis. Nevertheless, the Secretary General of the organization has never raised his voice in favor of the implementation of the Minsk agreements and direct dialogue between Kiev and the DPR and LPR.

Guterres said earlier that he does not consider what is happening in the Donbass to be genocide. According to him, cases of genocide should be determined in accordance with international law.

The UN Secretary General added that he would not be able to call the Russian military peacekeepers if they enter the territories of the DPR and LPR.
