OREANDA-NEWS President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko called the stunning victory of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the presidential elections in the Russian Federation.

"I have just spoken with the President of Russia and congratulated him on the results of the presidential elections in the Russian Federation. I asked you to convey my gratitude, first of all, of course, to those present here and others who helped organize the presidential elections of Russia here (we had six polling stations)," the press service of the Belarusian leader quotes Lukashenko as saying.

According to him, the elections of the President of the Russian Federation were held in Belarus "as organized as anywhere else." "No matter how they try to swing us here from the West, the results are very good. The Russian Embassy has worked very well in contact with our officials. Therefore, I convey to you his gratitude for the work and organization of the presidential elections of Russia in Belarus," Lukashenko said.

He noted that the absolute majority of voters cast their votes for the current president. "Of course, the result is stunning," the Belarusian leader said.

Lukashenko also noted the high turnout in the Russian elections. "There has never been such a turnout in the Russian Federation. Therefore, with a high turnout, such results are to some extent even unexpected. This was my position, and I expressed it to him," he said.
