Putin offered an alternative to the grain deal involving Qatar and Turkey

OREANDA-NEWS Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered to deliver 1 million tons of grain to Turkey at a discounted price with financial support from Qatar, follows from a message on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry. It is planned that the grain processed at Turkish enterprises will subsequently be sent to the most needy countries. The amount of the transaction is not reported. Earlier, Bild newspaper wrote that the trilateral agreement was discussed at a meeting of representatives of the three countries in Budapest on August 20
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the President's initiative is considered as "the optimal working initiative on the Black Sea deal." It will be discussed in detail at the meeting of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan. The head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry will arrive in Moscow on August 31—September 1.
On August 18, the German newspaper Bild reported that a meeting with the participation of Russia, Turkey and Qatar was held in Budapest on August 20. It is known that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov visited Hungary these days. On August 28, Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that there were no "substantive agreements" on a grain deal involving Qatar. At the same time, Mr. Peskov did not deny the discussion of such an initiative.
At the Russia—Africa summit (July 27-28), Vladimir Putin said that free deliveries of Russian grain to African countries will begin in October—November. We are talking about six states that will be supplied from 25 thousand to 50 thousand tons of grain.
On July 17, Russia withdrew from the grain deal, stating that the Russian part of the conditions was not fulfilled. The Russian side, in particular, insisted on reconnecting the Rosselkhoznadzor to SWIFT and lifting the ban on access of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to the world market.
