OREANDA-NEWS The low mobility of Russians in the labor market is turning into a problem that hinders the speed of structural adjustment of the economy. Analysts of the Research and Forecasting Department of the Bank of Russia write about this in the April bulletin "What trends say".

According to their estimates, the Russian economy in times of crisis is characterized by a weak transition of labor force between industries and regions, instead, underemployment is growing. The increase in mobility is stretched over time, if at all, and promising industries are unable to realize their potential as a result.

One of the ways out of the impasse, analysts called the rejection of artificial maintenance of employment in industries where there is a structural decline in demand for products. In other words, we are talking about greater tolerance for the practice of layoffs so that promising industries receive the necessary labor force.

The Central Bank also proposed to actively create opportunities for retraining and mastering new professions, which in itself contributes to the transition of employees to other companies. Another factor that increases mobility could be the development of the rental housing market, so that citizens can actively change their place of residence in the process of job search.
