OREANDA-NEWS The quota for the education of Burundian students in Russian universities is now set at a record level of 100 people in the history of bilateral relations, and it is planned to increase it further. This was reported to TASS by the Russian Ambassador to Burundi Valery Mikhailov.

"At the moment, we have increased the number of quotas for the Republic of Burundi to 100. This is a record number in the history of our diplomatic relations. But I assure you that we will not stop there," the ambassador said, noting that the more Burundian boys and girls go to study in Russia, the stronger the ties between the two countries will be in the future.

As Russian President Vladimir Putin announced in July 2023 at a meeting with his Burundian counterpart Evariste Ndayishimiye, a total of 4.5 thousand Burundians were trained in the Russian Federation. According to him, taking into account the growing demand, the quota for training citizens of this country in Russian universities has been doubled to 100 people.

There is a growing interest in the Russian language in Burundi. In May 2023, a Russian language study room was opened at the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the University of Burundi.
