The Ancient Capital of Myanmar has Received the Status of UNESCO World Heritage
A UNESCO statement states that the city of Bagan is a “sacred landscape”. The object consists of eight elements, each of which includes many Buddhist temples, stupas, sculptures, frescoes, archaeological monuments. There are also pilgrimage sites and monasteries.
All the elements of the monumental architectural ensemble are evidence of the heyday of Bagan civilization (XI – XII centuries AD), when the city was the capital of a regional empire.
