OREANDA-NEWS   Alexander Gorshkov will remain the idol of many generations and a legend of Russian sports. Anatoly Gulevsky, chairman of the All-Russian Sports and Sports Society Dynamo.

The president of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) Gorshkov died on Thursday at the age of 76.

"Alexander Georgievich was and will forever remain a true legend of Russian sports, the idol of many generations of figure skating fans, the pride of the Dynamo society, which he represented at the Olympics, World and European championships. Behind his successes and achievements were boundless work, great efficiency and willpower. He did a lot for the development of the physical culture movement, conducted a lot of public work, supported gifted youth and aspiring athletes," Gulevsky said.

Gorshkov has been the head of the FFKKR since June 2010. He became the first ever Olympic champion in ice dancing, winning the gold medal at the 1976 Innsbruck Games together with Lyudmila Pakhomova. Gorshkov has won the World and European Championships six times. Since 2001, Gorshkov has been a member of the executive committee of the ROC, and from 1998 to 2010 he was chairman of the technical committee on ice dancing of the International Skating Union.
