OREANDA-NEWS. September 09, 2016.  The National Energy Board (NEB) is pleased to report that it has completed 18 out of 22 recommendations that stemmed from the Office of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development’s (CESD) 2015 Audit of Pipeline Oversight. The remaining four are scheduled for completion by December 31st 2016. Today, the NEB provided the Office of the CESD with an update on the success of its Corrective Action Plan.

The CESD released its audit publicly on January 26, 2016.

The NEB immediately posted a Corrective Action Plan that went beyond the NEB’s commitments to the audit, and in less than one month after the audit was released; the NEB launched an online condition compliance web portal.

The NEB accepted all the audit report recommendations and has surpassed our commitments to address them including:

  • Increasing the visibility of pipeline condition status for the public;
  • Improving public transparency relating to emergency procedures manuals; and,
  • Simplifying and improving Canadians’ ability to find regulatory documents for each project proposal we assess, including detailed filings related to the status of project conditions and compliance.

The NEB will post the updated and completed Corrective Action Plan to its website in early 2017.

“The NEB welcomed the audit’s findings and I’m pleased to be able to advise the CESD Commissioner and Canadians that we responded decisively and in a fulsome manner to the audit. We will continue to improve in the areas of condition and compliance tracking, assessment and transparency of regulated company’s emergency preparedness, and our own capacity to meet the changing expectations of the Canadian public.” – Peter Watson, NEB Chair and CEO.
