Weather stops Houston Ship Channel traffic

OREANDA-NEWS. April 19, 2016. Houston Ship Channel traffic was closed today because of heavy flooding and inclement weather, according to the Houston/Galveston Vessel Traffic Service.

Pilots suspended boardings on the channel at 9:36 p.m. on 17 April. Transits in Galveston Bay resumed this morning, according to watch supervisor Albert Hernandez.

The Houston Ship Channel is home to several refineries and one of the largest US LPG export terminals.

Early today 18 chemical and oil products tankers, seven crude tankers and six LPG vessels all remained moored in the Houston Ship Channel.
