OREANDA-NEWS. IDG's CIO announced Navistar as a recipient of the 2016 CIO 100. The 29th annual award program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT).

"Delivering innovation and business value are top priorities for CIOs everywhere, and our CIO 100 awards program celebrates the leading IT organizations that excel at both," said Maryfran Johnson, Editor in Chief of CIO Events. "Our 2016 winners are raising the bar even higher this year with their outstanding work in digital transformation, customer focus and IT-business collaboration."

"We are pleased by this prestigious recognition from CIO of the scope of Navistar's innovation with OnCommand™ Connection, our unique open-architecture remote diagnostics service, which is helping our customers achieve significantly improved on-road uptime for their trucks and buses, regardless of make," said Terry Kline, Navistar senior vice president and CIO. "We believe that this and other emerging connected-vehicle services enabled by information technology and big-data analytics offer the potential to transform the trucking industry and deliver new dimensions of vehicle uptime, safety, fuel efficiency and on-time performance."

As noted in Navistar's CIO 100 award entry, OnCommand Connection (OCC) is a pioneering, web-based system that represents a major step forward for the Internet of Things in the transportation industry. Treating today's highly computerized commercial vehicles as nodes in a network, OCC uses a unique open-architecture, telematics-neutral approach to provide fleet managers with a comprehensive view of vehicles' health and usage patterns in real time, regardless of make. It alerts fleets to potential vehicle issues before they happen—speeding repairs, preventing catastrophic problems, and converting many repairs into routine maintenance. OCC also reduces vehicles' maintenance costs and improves their productivity. In addition, it creates incremental parts and service opportunities for Navistar and its International Truck and IC Bus dealer networks.

Executives from the winning companies will be recognized at The CIO 100 Symposium & Awards Ceremony, to be held Tuesday evening, August 16th, at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.

Recipients of this year's CIO 100 Award were selected through a three-step process. First, companies filled out an online application form detailing their innovative IT and business initiatives. Next, a team of external judges (many of them former CIOs) reviewed the applications in depth, looking for leading-edge IT practices and measurable results. Finally, CIO editors reviewed the judges' evaluations and selected the final 100.
