OREANDA-NEWS. The net profit of the manufacturer of mobile phones Motorola Inc. in the third quarter of 2006 decreased by 45 percent as sales of phones and wireless network equipment have not justified expectation, the company informed on Tuesday.

The net profit of Motorola for the period under review has fallen to $968 million, or 39 cents per share, from $1,75 billion, or 69 cents per share a year before, when the company informed on the lumpsum income at the rate of 39 cents per share from investments in Nextel Communications.

The company informed that it has sold 53,7 million mobile phones for a quarter at forecasts at the rate of 54,75 million. In the second quarter, 51,9 million phones were sold, and in the third quarter of the last year - 38,7 million.
