OREANDA-NEWS. April 18, 2007.  The first power-saving AC train ED9E-0001 acceptance traction-power tests have been successfully completed in the Railway Transport Research Institute trail circle in Sherbinka. The train was manufactured by the Demikhovsky Engineering Plant.

The KEO-25 power-saving unit, VIP-1000 converter and microprocessor control system of the tractive drive provide for smooth tractive motors voltage control and better tractive features of the train. The smooth start and regenerative braking effective systems enable from 20 to 30 per cent reduce in energy consumption and exploitation costs depending on the exploitation conditions. One electric train will be saving some 450,000 kW/h a year.

The two-car ED9E-0001 tests (the head and motor cars were tested) were focused on the electric circuits protection systems and the cars internal equipment, as well as sanitary features. The ED9E-0001 tests are scheduled to be completed in the middle of 2007.

The ED9E-0001 train integrates high level of drivers’ and passengers’ comfort, service and safety. The train design incorporates a number of cut-of-the-edge engineering solutions: the unified control board and climate control system in the driver’s cab, environment-friendly WC units, saloon light lines, soft six-seat sofas. The saloons are fitted with conditioning and electric air heater systems. The train cars also feature video monitoring and fire-fighting systems.

On the JSC Russian Railways order a nine-car train of the derivative will be manufactured early in 2008.
