OREANDA-NEWS. June 6, 2007. Over 250 residents of Poliarnye Zori took part in the clean-up of the tailrace canal of Kola NPP and the shore of Lake Imandra. During the action employees of KNPP, divers and residents of Poliarnye Zori picked up tons of litter from the bottom of the canal and the Imandra beaches.

The engineer of the Information Center Natalia Shastina explains that this action is being conducted for the second time and may well become a tradition. The number of those wishing to contribute to the environment protection is quickly growing and the above event is a vivid example of such contribution.

Now, after the clean-up, we can be sure that the beaches near Kola NPPs are the cleanest in the region.

The action was more like a holiday. People of different professions and age groups, different social statuses and political beliefs tidied up the area in a joint effort. So, it was also a social campaign.
