OREANDA-NEWS. On July 17, 2007 the Belarusian Government has approved an architectural design of Grodno Hydropower Plant, which will be located on the river Neman. The decision is laid down by the Council of Ministers’ resolution No. 915 of July 17, 2007, reported the Official website www.government.by.

According to Grodnoenergo, preparations for holding a tender for buying prime equipment for the future hydropower station are underway. The tender will be held with a preliminary qualification scheduled for August 7. The tender is supposed to take place on September 10, 2007.

According to Grodnoenergo, the construction of the new hydropower plant will begin once the equipment supplier has been chosen. In Q4 2007 earthworks will start in the area designated for the hydraulic engineering structures. The project deadline is 2010.

Let us remind you that Grodno Hydropower Plant will be built on the flood bed of the river Neman in line with a governmental complex programme meant to upgrade the basic production assets of the Belarusian power engineering grid. The designed capacity of the future power plant will make 17MW, more than the total capacity of all the existing Belarusian hydropower plants. Once operational, Grodno Hydropower Plant will produce ecologically friendly energy, essentially increasing the reliability of power supply to Grodno.
