OREANDA-NEWS. The Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU) was signed by Andrey Belyaninov, head of the Federal Customs Service, and Vladimir Yakunin, President of Russian Railways. 

The memorandum determines the main areas for cooperation, including the joint development and implementation of programs on customs and rail infrastructure, technical processes and technical specifications for the interaction of the two sides implementing international freight and passenger rail transportation.

This in turn includes introducing electronic document processing, monitoring passengers in moving trains, preliminary electronic notification of customs organs about goods and means of transportation passing through Russia’s customs borders by rail.

The two sides agreed about to carry out consultations on improving laws and regulations on international rail transportation and to develop systems to exchange information in electronic form between Russian Railways and the customs authorities in order to accelerate customs procedures for goods and means of transport.
