OREANDA-NEWS. On August 20, 2007 the new EP2K-002 DC passenger locomotive manufactured by Kolomensky Zavod (a CJSC Transmashholding member) was sent earlier today to the St Petersburg-Passenger Moscow depot (Octyabrsky Railway) for the final stage of preliminary factory tests, that is a 500km exploitation run, reported the press-centre of CJSC Transmashholding.

The electric locomotive will be leading the №№25-26 trains on the St Petersburg-Moscow route.
The new EP2K-002 locomotive has a number of modernized mechanical and electrical assemblies as compared to the first locomotive of the type. For example, it has an auxiliary static converter with better technical features as compared to the rotating converters.

The EP2K-002 is to be sent for acceptance tests upon undergoing the summer exploitation run. An interdepartmental committee will be considering the EP2K batch production basing on the two locomotives’ test results.

In 2006, the EP2K-001 performed a winter exploitation run on the West-Siberian Railway and is now being prepared for dynamic and durability tests at the VNIIJT test circle in Sherbinka.

The EP2K is the first Russian DC passenger locomotive. The Soviet Union imported the locomotives of the type from Czechoslovakia.
