OREANDA-NEWS. September 5, 2007. Construction of the first tier start-up facilities of ash dump No. 2 to serve the needs of the thermal power plant-5 has been completed. This was performed in the framework of the 2007 investment program of OAO Novosibirskenergo. As planned, by the beginning of September the dam ridge height reached 195 meters. The working commission signed an act of ash dump acceptance.

Ash dump No. 2 is a complex hydraulic facility consisting of three tiers. The fist tier is divided into two start-up facilities. Thus far, construction of the first facility has been completed. This includes a 20 m dam, an ash and slag conduit from TPP-5 with the length of over 2 kilometers, a floating clear water pump station and a drainage pump station. The first tier capacity is 1,850,000 m?, and the dam’s volume is 585,000 m?. To ensure efficient operation of electric systems of the ash dump, a modular 6/04 kV electricity distribution device has been installed. Commissioning of the first tier will solve the problem of collecting the ash waste of TPP-5 for the next five years. This will be complemented by building of the second and the third tiers. In accordance with the technical design, the end dam ridge height should be 211 meters, and the total area of the ash dump is estimated to reach 64 hectares, with the pond area (water surface area) covering 11 hectares. When building additional tiers, dust control facilities will be erected: booster stations for the hydraulic monitor and for the loam pulp pump. The facility’s achievement of the projected design output will ensure dumping of ash and slag from TPP-5 for the next 12 years.

Ash dumps are an integral link in the work cycle of heat power plants, and they require regular renovation. Construction of the second ash dump for TPP-5 started in 2006, as ash dump No. 1 had been almost filled. Its land surface will be reclaimed within the next few years. Nearly 300 million rubles have been invested in construction of the first start-up facility of the ash dump. The design of the ash dump was developed by ZAO SibKOTES, and its construction is being carried out by ZAO Novosibirskenergospetsremont.
