OREANDA-NEWS. International reserves of the National Bank of Ukraine increased by 6.0% in September (5.8% in August) and by 37.6% over 9M2007 (29.8% over 8M2007) to USD 28.9bn. In particular, the NBU bought USD 0.8bn in currency on the interbank currency market in September (USD 1.6bn in August).

According to experts of Millennium Capital, a financial services proviser, the released figures support their expectations of an increase in the NBU's international reserves, reflecting the substantial inflow of foreign capital into Ukraine in the amount that is more than needed to fully compensate the negative current account deficit and support the appreciation of the hrivna.The international reserves of the NBU are likely to exceed the previous forecast (USD 30.8bn) by the end of the year.
