OREANDA-NEWS. After contradictory reports in the media, Ukrenergo has decided to clarify its plans concerning cooperation with the Hungarian energy trader Emfesz (owned by Mr. Firtash), Millennium Capital, a financial services provider reports. The first stage of the project concerns only the reconstruction of the trunk line between Prydnistrovska TPP (the Transnistrian region of Moldova) and Isaccea in Romania that belongs to Ukrenergo. The second stage, which, according to the company, will happen in 7-8 years, will see the reconstruction of the Ukrainian trunk of the high voltage line. The back-to-back DC technology mentioned in some media is to be used then only if there is a significant excess electricity supply in Southern Ukraine and no connection to UCTE has taken place, in particular if the Prymorska substation wouldn't have been built.

Still, according to the analysts, the clarification concerns only the timing and stages of the project - it doesn't give a definitive answer of whether the 750kV line to be rejuvenated is going to be accessible to all market players including listed GenCos or only to South-Ukrainian Nuclear Power Station. The delay in implementing that stage might indicate, though, that the company is favouring a UCTE integration scenario.
