OREANDA-NEWS. December 5, 2007.Russia is ready to supply radioactive waste treatment technologies to all countries developing nuclear power engineering, the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko said today while opening Atomeco 2007 fair.

He said that Russia has long had such technologies and have lots of them but nobody has wanted them so far. Today, the situation has changed and there is growing demand for them.

“Here I see lots of technologies and we have to decide which of them meet the world standards and which of them will be used in the near future.”

“We will use these technologies in our own nuclear industry but we are open for cooperation as we believe that nuclear energy production is an open world market,” Kiriyenko said. He pointed out that now that NPP construction is actively developing worldwide radioactive waste treatment technologies will be in high demand and will become one of the key sources of profit. “Besides, by developing such technologies we will prove that we are able to solve the problem of disposal of radioactive waste,” Kiriyenko said.

In conclusion, Kiriyenko presented the winners of the fair with certificates. Almost 60 projects were presented at the fair. The organizers say that nuclear specialists from the United States, France, Germany and other countries have shown high interest in the projects.

Atomeco 2007 fair has been organized for presenting projects to treat radioactive waste, transport radioactive materials, decommission nuclear power plants and other radioactive facilities, recovering the environment, processing industrial and domestic waste, etc. and for analyzing the investment appeal of the solutions that might be applied under the Federal target Program for the Development of the Nuclear Power Industry of Russia in 2007–2010 and -2015 and the Federal Target Program “Nuclear and Radiation Safety 2008–2015.”

One more goal of the fair is to intensify innovative activities in nuclear power engineering, machine building and construction with a view to attract private investments and to develop the innovative infrastructure.

The congressional part of the fair consists of an exhibition and presentation of the most attractive projects, an international conference, roundtables, business meetings.

The organizers of the fair of innovative ecological projects are “Atomeco-2007,” the Federal Agency for Nuclear Energy (Rosatom), Atomenergoprom OJSC and Atom Innovation Center.

The best projects will be recommended to the Investment Committee of the sectoral Venture Fund for financing and involvement in the federal target program for Nuclear and Radiation Safety.
