OREANDA-NEWS. December 6, 2007. In early 2008, ports of Zasnits (Germany) and Ust-Luga (Leningrad region) are planned to be linked by direct ferry service within the framework of Baltic Ferry project.

The service will be able to start operation after a border customs point is open in Ust-Luga, which is planned for the beginning of 2008. As of today the service is as follows: Zasnits-Baltijsk-port of St. Petersburg-Ust-Luga.

Besides, RosMorPort FSUE operating the construction of Ust-Luga ferry service will put into operation road infrastructure facilities within the framework of the same project.

As for the possibilities for introduction of a new shipping line between Zasnits and Vyborg, the project will require reconstruction of infrastructure and expansion of the port. As of today it is able to accept only small ferries.

Baltic Ferry is a project for creation of an integrated multi-purpose railway and car ferry service between Ust-Luga-Baltijsk-German ports in the ports of Ust-Luga.
