OREANDA-NEWS. December 26, 2007. Today, METRO Cash & Carry on Petrivka, Kyiv, introduced three new departments: Wine Humidor and Cigar room with unique for Ukraine assortment, Room of Premium meat products and Tasting kitchen for master classes and tastings, the press center of the company reported.

Total investment into these new departments amounts to EUR 500 000.The Humidor offers over 140 unique wines up to UAH 5 000 per bottle imported from France, Italy and the New World and of over 61 types of cigars from Dominican Rebublic, Cuba, Nicaragua and Honduras. All products belong to premium class and are offered at price 10% lower than in specialized stores. The wine assortment will change respective of the season.

Only natural materials such as Spanish cedar, which is an ideal absorber of tobacco smell, are used in the Department. In Humidor consumers can find world class products of such famous producers as Domaine Laroche, Castello Banfi, Chateau Haut-Brion, Maculan.

The room with premium class meat products covers an area of 18 sq. m. and offers an assortment of over 120 meat products sourced both from Ukrainian producers as well as from Spain, Hungary and Italy.  Here gourmets can find anything from mini salami to Proshyto ham.

For professional HoReCa customers and suppliers METRO Cash & Carry created a special zone for their restaurants and product promotion. In the new Tasting kitchen equipped with gastro equipment from METRO Cash & Carry wholesale store chefs can share their professional secrets with more than 3 700 persons – this is an average figure of clients per day of METRO Cash & Carry in Petrivka. 

"Introducing additional services and enlarged assortment to our customers we aim to help them surprise their visitors with new menu and refined wine list. METRO Cash & Carry Ukraine became the sixth country after Germany, China, Chez Republic, Great Britain and Russia which offers gourmets premium selection of wines from all over the world. Opening the Room with premium class meat products and Tasting kitchen we took as a guidance the best practice of Germany and Russia," stated Maksym Gatsus, Operations Director METRO Cash & Carry Ukraine.

The changes happened in line with the company-wide remodeling project carried out by METRO Cash & Carry stores in Ukraine. According to the remodeling the store has enlarged departments with household products, audio and video, gastro equipment, seasonal and office goods. The departments are organized upon “shop-in-shop” principle. With positive effects of pilot remodeling on Pozniaky in June 2007 METRO Cash & Carry will bring the same changes to all stores.

Within 4 years of operations in Ukraine METRO Cash & Carry opened 18 wholesale stores: three in Kyiv, two in Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk, one in Kharkiv, Odesa, Lviv, Luhansk, Kryvyi Rih, Poltava, Vinnytsa, Zaporizhya, Chernivtsi, Mykolaiv and Rivne.
