OREANDA-NEWS. December 29, 2007. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov issued the Resolution aimed at introducing advanced information technologies and expanding the national network of internet users in Turkmenistan. The document authorizes the Ministry of Communications of Turkmenistan to conclude the contract amounted to 1,585,337 US dollars with the winner of the international tender, TechnoService A/C Company (Russian Federation). The Turkmentelekom State Company is to accomplish the first project stage till December 2008.

TechnoService A/C is the leading system integrator on the Russian market of informational technologies. The company has successfully implemented a number of the large-scale telecommunications projects. The current project is the Company’s debut on the telecommunications market.

The network of internet users is rapidly expanding in Turkmenistan. To date, 18 internet centers have been opened throughout the country. The current project envisages increasing the number of internet subscribers through dial-up connection to 20,000. The number of the subscribers connected via a high-speed direct line will increase to 1,100.

The large-scale project envisages installing 14 servers providing the internet connection services in Ashgabat. 10 servers will provide the connection services to internet users in the regions (each server has 48 modems). 4 servers with 500 modems each and a server with 1,000 modems will provide internet dial-up connection in Ashgabat. A high capacity server will provide e-mail services to 100,000 internet subscribers and six software servers will be installed. The winner of the international tender for expansion of an internet external channel will be announced in December. The current loading capacity of the channel is 15 MB/sec. The project is aimed at increasing the capacity as many as 10 times.

The large-scale investment project is implemented within the framework of the Program of the President of Turkmenistan on provision of high-quality communication services to local population and national economy.
