OREANDA-NEWS. January 10, 2008. Local museums will open in the agro-towns of the Gomel oblast, Valery Selitsky, the chairman of the oblast council of deputies, told a press conference marking the 70th anniversary of the Gomel oblast.

“We are going to complete the creation of museums in the regions and towns of the south-eastern part of the country in 2008. Then museums will be opened in agro-towns. Every agro-town will have a museum to narrate about the history and people of the place,” Valery Selitsky said.

According to the chairman of the oblast council of deputies, museums are the original keepers of regional history. Moreover, they play a significant role in tourism development.

Museums have already been opened in most of the regions of the Gomel oblast.
