OREANDA-NEWS. January 10, 2008. The head of the Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Control Konstantin Pulikovsky has put into force methodological recommendations for the preparation of the ecological justification of a license in the field of use of nuclear energy.

The recommendations are supposed to help entities acting in the following spheres related to the use of nuclear energy:

— siting, construction, operation and decommissioning of nuclear power plants, sources of radiation and facilities for storage of nuclear and radioactive materials and waste;

— treatment, transportation and burial of radioactive waste.

The recommendations say that the ecological justification of a license should include a detailed analysis of the ecological effects caused by the activities of the owner of the license. Particularly, the owner of the license should describe the ecological situation in the area, should specify all existing and possible negative effects on the environment and should say what it does to reduce those effects and to prevent possible emergencies.

An approval by the ecological inspection is an obligatory condition for obtaining Rostekhnadzor’s license.
