OREANDA-NEWS. January 11, 2008.  In January-December 2007, throughput of port Kavkaz fell by 11.22%, year-on-year, to 6.375.54 million tonnes of cargo. In the reported period, transshipment of export cargo totaled 3.994.78 million tonnes (2.5-fold growth against the results of 2006). Transshipment of import cargo grew by 22.3% to 1.057.18 million tonnes. In 2007, the port handled 113,030 tonnes of fertilizers and 1.234.88 million tonnes of general cargo. Transshipment of oil products totaled 3.704.05 million tonnes. Off-harbor transshipment fell 3.6-fold to 1.323.58 million tonnes. In the reported period the port handled 2,310 vessels against 2,397 vessels in 2006.

Port Kavkaz is situated at the border of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov at Kerch Strait from the side of Russia. The port is ice-free, so it is able to handle both river vessels (draft of up to 5 meters) and sea vessels (off-harbor handling of vessels with a draft of up to 11 meters). The territory of the port is crossed by a 2,600-meter long railway line. The port handles loose cargo, as well as general cargo and timber.
