OREANDA-NEWS. January 16, 2007. Almost 500, 000 TEU (20ft Equivalent Units) were handled at the Baltic Container Terminal (BCT), Gdynia in 2007. This record-breaking result consolidates and expands BCT's position as the leading container terminal in Poland and also places it in the top 3 container terminals in the Baltic region overall. Traffic in 2007 was up by some 23% over the performance in 2006. Container traffic rose from 401,466 TEU in 2006 to 493,860 TEU for the 12 months to the end of 2007. In addition BCT saw a 36% increase in its car traffic and another double digit increase of 20% in its break bulk cargo. Car traffic increased from 54,800 units in 2006 to over 75,000 units in 2007. Import cargoes accounted for the lion's share of the cargo handled comprising 53% of the total cargo volume handled.
