OREANDA-NEWS. February 08, 2007. EMZ Group includes Yenakievo Steel Works (EMZ) and JV Metalen, which jointly operate at the same production site. The companies operate under a common development strategy which was prepared in cooperation with Metinvest Holding experts, common management system, unified system of planning, procurement, logistics and sales, reported the press-centre of SCM.

Key facts:

In 2005 EMZ and Metalen accounted for 7,5% of the world billets output07-;

In 2006 88% of steel fom EMZ Group companies was produced by continuous casting method. In 2007 the amount of steel produced in continuous casters equaled to 85%;

EMZ Group does not operate open-hearth furnaces. Steel is cast in three 160 tones converters;

In 2007 the Group produced 2,2 Mt of sinter; 2,4 Mt of cast iron; 2,8 Mt of steel; supplied 2,8 Mt of sellable rolled products including 2,1 Mt of cast billets, 459,3 thousand tones of section rolled products;

In 2007 EMZ and Metalen invested $54,7 million in reconstruction and modernization;

In the long-term prospects EMZ is planning to increase annual output of steel to 4 Mt.

Development strategy:
By 2012 EMZ Group is planning to carry out:
Fundamental reconstruction and modernization of sintering and blast furnace production, which will allow improve quality of products, technological efficiency and meet the highest world standards;

Construction of two more continuous casters, reconstruction of rolling-mill 250, construction of beam-rolling mill;

Further increase of steel output up to 4 Mt per year;

Increasing the share of steel continuous casting to 100%;

Introduction of the Total Quality Management (TQM) system;

Optimisation of all production costs;

Creation of conditions for development of employees;

Introduction of energy and resources saving technologies.
