OREANDA-NEWS. February 19, 2008.  In some regions nuclear power plants are the biggest tax payers and their payments constitute the greater part of the budgetary revenues of their host cities and regions.

For example, the tax payments of Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant made up 28% of the budgetary revenues of Smolensk region. Last year the plant paid in taxes 641.280mln RUR to the region and 124mln RUR more to Desnogorsk.

In 2007 Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant (Chukotka Autonomous District) paid in taxes 170.157mln RUR – 23% of the revenues of the regional budget.

The payments of other NPPs are also impressive.

Last year Balakovo NPP paid in taxes 883.894mln RUR, Kursk NPP – 1.018bln RUR, Leningrad NPP – 1.273bln RUR. Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant hit the record – 1.760bln RUR.

In 2007 the existing 10 nuclear power plants and the 3 constructed NPPs of Russia paid in taxes a total of 8.215bln RUR.
