OREANDA-NEWS. March 11, 2008. Latvian businessmen are interested in setting up joint ventures in the Gomel oblast.

According to him, it can be the companies engaged in woodworking or servicing. “Latvian businessmen would like to develop closer cooperation with business circles of the Gomel oblast. We want to establish long-term relations with Belarusian partners,” Girts Kronbergs said.

According to him, Latvia is actively developing business cooperation with the Minsk and Vitebsk oblasts. “In the Gomel region our companies work with the Belarusian Steel Works only. It is not right as the Gomel oblast has a considerable potential for cooperation. I hope, in a year or two the Latvian capital will be represented here as well,” he noted.

The director of the Liepaja department of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry also noted a significant improvement of the investment climate in Belarus. Our companies have serious intentions to work on the Belarusian market, Girts Kronbergs noted.

The delegation of Latvian businessmen includes representatives of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and also 11 companies the activity of which is connected with transport, logistics, timber industry, organization of sports and entertaining events. The foreign guests will have a meeting with the leadership of the Gomel City Council. On March 12, the delegation will leave Gomel for Minsk.
