OREANDA-NEWS. March 17, 2008. President of Lithuania: Shutdown of Ignalina NPP will force Lithuania to use less ecologically safe sources of energy

President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus has taken part in the discussion of problems of energy and climate change in the framework of the EU summit in Brussels.

“Lithuania supports the European Commission’s proposals for preventing climate change but points to the situation that will be created in 2010: after the shutdown of Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant the other Lithuanian power plants will be forced to use less ecologically friendly fuel,” Adamkus said in the presence of EU top officials and the presidents and prime ministers of EU member states.
