OREANDA-NEWS. March 18, 2008. Kyiv city head and city council's snap election will be held in Kyiv. The relevant resolution has been adopted in the Verkhovna Rada with 246 votes: the BYUT which first insisted on the re-election, the OU-PSD bloc, the Communist Party faction and several deputies of the Lytvyn's bloc. The opposition Party of Regions gave no vote "for".

The election in Kyiv will take place in the last Sunday 70 days after the document takes effect.

President Viktor Yushchenko signed a decree March 13 to suspend Kyiv city head Leonid Chernovetskyi for 15 days for the duration of an official investigation in view of charges brought against the city mayor because of nonperformance of duties, violation of the Constitution and laws, non-fulfillment of presidential and governmental acts.

A check early held by an interdepartmental working party on the compliance with legislation and measures of socio-economic development of Kyiv found numerous breaches of laws and legislative instruments by the Kyiv City State Administration leadership.

A preliminary report of a deputy temporary investigative commission which has been today presented in the parliament said the land in Kyiv is distributed in completely obscure manner ignoring any legislative acts of the State Committee on Land Resources. Moreover, it is not clear, in what way the city council's staff is formed as its strength has exceeded 2.5 thousand persons.
