OREANDA-NEWS. March 24, 2008. The improvement is part of the General Plan for the Development of the Hub until 2020. It is envisaged that the hub will implement a number of projects to optimise the rail network in Moscow and the Moscow region.

Intermodal transport between railway stations and airports will be further developed. In the vicinity of Kalanchevskaya station, which is close to Kazan, Leningrad and Yaroslavsky stations, it is planned to construct a terminal complex which would be linked by rail to the three airports of the capital. In addition, it will serve the high-speed line between Moscow and St. Petersburg.

It is also planned to build rail connections between all of Moscow’s airports by 2020.

In the district of Ilich to the east of Moscow, the Southern Railway Station (working title) will be the departure point for passengers leaving for the south.

There will also be series of new technical stations for passenger trains and their servicing.

In addition, the General Plan involves optimising cargo by bypassing Moscow for transit cargo, which will lead to some cargo facilities in Moscow being reassigned or closed.

The cost of all the measures outlined in the General Plan for Moscow’s railway hub is estimated at 767 billion roubles.
