OREANDA-NEWS. March 25, 2008. National Container Company (NCC) and Kalmar Industries (Kalmar) signed a contract for production and delivery of 19 new icon terminal tractors for First Container Terminal (FCT) and off-dock container terminal Shushary.

Earlier this year Kalmar won the tender for the delivery of equipment conducted by NCC.

In operational terms, icon outperforms other terminal tractors thanks to the productivity and ease of maintenance. The icon series of terminal tractors offers such innovative features as:

CAN-BUS (controller area network) control system which integrates all functions in a single system and makes tractor operations faster, safer and simpler. Its diagnostic capabilities also assist in service and maintenance planning, saving time, effort and cost.

The latest EU-stage engines which provide much greater torque, as well as the high pulling capacity required for heavy ramp driving.

Cost efficiency, elaborate design and long lifetime durability.

Superior operator comfort. The operator cabin has more working space and better visibility, as well as plenty of useful devices for operator’s comfort.

According to the contract terms the new tractors produced by Kalmar will be delivered to NCC’s terminals and put into operation in September, 2008.

14 terminal tractors will be delivered to FCT according to the terminal’s investment program which envisages the growth of its capacity up to 1.6M TEU by 2012. The throughput increase will be achieved also by putting into operation the off-dock terminal in Shushary in the autumn of 2008 where 5 "icon" terminal tractors will be delivered.

Today icon tractors already operate at the Port of Stockholm and Stena Line, based in Gothenburg.
