OREANDA-NEWS. April 9, 2008. In January-March, 2008, the port of Tallinn handled 8.141.1 million tonnes (-29.6%, year-on-year). In March, the port’s throughput fell by 25%, year-on-year, to 3.063.9  million tonnes (+15.5% against February 08).

In the 3-month period of 2008, transshipment of import cargo amounted 788,500 tonnes, export – 718,600 tonnes, transit – some 6.6 million tonnes (-35%, year-on-year).

Transshipment of loose dry cargo fell by 72% to 924,000 tonnes, liquid bulk cargo – by 15.3% to 5.8 million tonnes, general cargo – by 10.8% to 158,000 tonnes.

Transshipment of coal fell from 2 million tonnes in January-March 2007 to 66,800 tonnes in January-March 2008, transshipment of mineral fertilizers – from 541,000 tonnes to 222,400 tonnes, while transshipment of loaded containers grew by 2.7% to 40,835 TEU (301,400 tonnes). In the reported period the port handled 230,000 units of ro-ro cargo.

In January-March, 2008, passenger turnover grew by 20.5% to 1.337 million passengers with the majority of passengers carried by Tallinn-Helsinki service (1.148 million passengers) and Tallinn-Stockholm service (173,500 passengers).

The number of calls fell by 7.8% to 1,817 including 561 calls made by cargo vessels.
