OREANDA-NEWS. April 10, 2008. Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation is drafting a law on treatment of radioactive waste, the director of the Department for Work with Public Organizations and Regions of Rosatom Igor Konyshev told journalists after today’s meeting of Rosatom Public Council.

“Today, we have considered a draft law on treatment of radioactive waste, to be submitted to the State Duma and the Government,” Konyshev said. He did not say when exactly the bill would be sent for consideration but pointed out that it would be widely discussed with the public.

The Council also discussed the problem of geo-monitoring in the Mayak PA zone. “We have almost 400 stations there, which provide us with information on a daily basis. So, today, we see no danger of spill of liquid radioactive waste from Mayak’s ponds,” Konyshev said.

He said that today Rosatom ordered to replace the Public Council of the Federal Agency for Nuclear Energy with the Public Council of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation.
