OREANDA-NEWS. May 5, 2008. Severstal’s Izhora Pipe Mill has secured a contract to supply some 11, 682 miles of large diameter pipes for the Malay-Bagtiyarlik gas pipeline.

In a contract expected to exceed ? 100 million Izhora will supply 80,000 tons of 1420-mm pipes for a new natural gas pipeline which will cross Turkmenistan from the gas field of Malay to the Uzbekistan border (Bagtyyarlyk township). The order to supply pipes came from Turkmengas company.

Under the terms of the contract the pipe maker plans to supply 18.2 meter long К60 (Х70) pipes measuring 1420 mm in diameter, with 15.7 to 23.2 mm. thick walls and a three-layer polymer outer coating. The designed annual capacity of the pipeline is about 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas. The pipes will be supplied to Stroytransgaz which is acting as the general contractor for the design and build of the pipeline.

According to Oleg Urnev, General Director of ZAO Izhora Pipe Mill, “Stroytransgaz  appreciated the high quality and commercial advantages of our products: 18.2-metre long pipes, that can cut construction costs and improve pipeline reliability. The contract was also awarded because Izhora  meets the the most stringent requirements for pipe quality.”
