OREANDA-NEWS. On May 14 2008, the Prime Minister of Georgia Vladimer Gurgenidze arrived in Telavi where he attended presentation of the project of the Vaziani-Gombori-Telavi highway.

Rehabilitation of the highway will start in 2 weeks. The 94 kilometer segment of the highway will be completely renovated. In effect of this, the distance between Tbilisi-Telavi will be reduced to 41 kilometers. In order to implement this project the government is planning to allocate 60 million dollars as investment capital. The works, presumably, will be completed in 2 years and about 5000 people of the local population will get their jobs there.

– "This project has a great importance for the development of the regional economy as well as for complete use of the tourist potential of this region. It should also be noted that new jobs will be created and the distance between Tbilisi-Telavi will be considerably shortened and this will enable the passengers to cover this distance in 45 minutes”, – Vladimer Gurgenidze stated.

The prime minister of Georgia met the local population as well and discussed the local problems with them. Head of Georgia’s government was asked to settle the problem of employment and improve the social situation as well.
