OREANDA-NEWS. May 22, 2008. The amount of investments in Belarus has tripled over the past decade which attests to the confident economic development of the country, Deputy Economy Minister of Belarus Piotr Zhabko stated at the 5th Gomel Investment Forum 2008.

According to him, the government attaches great attention to attracting foreign investment in various sectors of the national economy. For example, more than 150 investment projects with participation of foreign capital are implemented in the country in 2008. These are the projects in power engineering, communication, oil and food industries.

At the same time Piotr Zhabko noted that the current level of investment is not enough for putting all the plans into practice. Therefore, Belarus’ ambitious task is to develop such a legislation which could enable it to get into the list of the countries with the most favourable business doing environment.

The adopted measures and also political and economic stability, well-developed infrastructure, high educational level of workforce are expected to facilitate an inflow of investments, those from abroad as well, Piotr Zhabko said. In January-March 2008 the amount of foreign investments in Belarus doubled over the same period last year to \\$2.1 billion.
