OREANDA-NEWS. May 26, 2008. Commercial Seaport of Odessa plans to build a ro-ro terminal for transshipment of automobiles, the port’s management informs.

According to Nikolai Pavlyuk, head of Odessa port, the company understands this type of activities provides large potential. Similar terminal has already been built in the port of Iljichevsk. The project is to expand the range of high-price cargoes handled in the port and to raise the share of cargoes handled according to extremely high ecological standards. The port’s plans are based on permanently growing transportation of automobiles in the Black Sea region.

“It is difficult to forecast how cargo flow will be distributed between the ports of the Black and the Baltic Seas. The ports of Finland handling the majority of cars imported to Russia may hardly handle the growing cargo flow,” Viktoria Marchenko, head of marketing and logistics department of Iljichevsk port, said.

As of today, Ukraine handles automobiles in Iljichevsk and Sevastopol the ports of which have specialized facilities.
