OREANDA-NEWS. May 28, 2008. A thick gas discharge with the daily flow about 1.2 million cubic meters was received while testing exploratory well 15 in the Western Garajaovlak field in the Ahal Velayat. The productive horizon was explored at a depth of over 4,700 meters.

The success of Turkmen gas industry workers and the seismic test data received by a geophysical expedition of the Turkmengeologiya State Corporation in the Western Garajaovlak prove that several large natural gas deposits will appear on the geological map of Turkmenistan in the nearest future. The expedition ‘pointed out’ the search interval – 4,8-5 kilometres. The test data received from the first exploratory wells that proved the forecast of the Turkmen scientists, geologists and geophysicists about the presence of the considerable reserves of hydrocarbon resources lying deep in the depths. Thus, a commercial gas discharge with the production rate of about 300,000 cubic metres a day was received at a depth of 4,636-4,652 metres when testing well 14. The specialists assume that there are three more gas-bearing strata lying above the explored productive horizon.

At present the specialists are engaged in forced drilling-out Western Garajaovlak. Several wells were sunk in the marginal zones that will help to specify the sizes of the so-called Oxford and Valanzhin deposits and prepare them for exploration. According to the specialists of the Institute of Oil and Gas, the new fuel deposits can be found at a depth of 5,100-5,300 meters.

Strengthening the raw material base of gas industry along with increasing the operational efficiency of the deposits used for a long time will promote increasing the volumes of hydrocarbon fuel production that will offer a powerful incentive to develop the oil and gas industry as well as the other sectors of Turkmen economy. The large-scale social and economic development programmes aimed at increasing the welfare of the Turkmen people will guarantee energy security to Turkmenistan.
