OREANDA-NEWS. May 29, 2008. The Prosecutor of Sosnovy Bor: The spreading of rumors about accident at Leningrad NPP was a planned action.

Prosecutor of Sosnovy Bor Stanislav Rumyantsev believes that the spreading of rumors about an accident at Leningrad Nuclear Pwer Plant was a planned action.

“We have grounds for believing that it was a planned action. It may have been plotted by extremists, hooligans, opponents of the construction of Leningrad NPP-2 or people having own commercial interests,” Rumyantsev said during a press-conference on Wednesday.

The deputy head of the Sosnovy Bor Investigation Department of the Prosecutor’s Office of Leningrad region Maria Shklyaruk said that the criminal code of Russia has no article for this specific case.

So, the Prosecutor’s Office may refer to article 207 (allegation about planned act of terrorism) or article 129 (slander).

Shklyaruk said that the investigators already know for sure that the rumors were not spread by a source from Sosnovy Bor.

Director of Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant Valery Lebedev said that the rumors were a provocation,

“The radiation situation at the plant is within norm,” he said.

He refuted the supposition that the rumors might have been spread by employees of Leningrad NPP fired for violating labor discipline.

To remind, last week some sources spread rumors about an accident at Leningrad NPP. The competent authorities and the managers of the plant refuted the allegations. Nevertheless, the scared residents of St.Petersburg bought out the whole iodine from the local drug stores.
