OREANDA-NEWS. June 2, 2008. The prices for the products of the cattle breeding industry will not hike in Belarus, Minister of Agriculture and Foodstuffs of Belarus Semen Shapiro said when answering questions of parliamentarians on May 30. “In recent years the Government has been attaching special attention to this issue,” he added.

The prices for poultry and pork are equal to the prices in Belarus’ neighbouring countries and Europe, specialists say. “Milk prices are lower and we are going to raise them by autumn,” Semen Shapiro noted.

As for beef prices, they are much lower in Belarus than in the neighbouring regions. This fact has created the situation when beef is heavily brought out of the country, though the capacity of Belarus’ beef industry is sufficient to satisfy the domestic market. “In this respect the Ministry of Agriculture and Foodstuffs has addressed the Government to raise the purchasing beef prices by 10%,” the minister said.
